The strongest projects begin with one principle: the court is not a standalone purchase. It is a structural asset within a wider operating environment. Access, foundations, local conditions, player flow, lighting, weather protection and maintenance all affect the final result. Treating these matters as separate decisions late in the programme creates avoidable cost, delay and compromise.

Start with the commercial brief

Before selecting a court model, define what the facility must achieve. A private members’ club adding two courts has different priorities from an operator launching a six-court padel venue, while a hotel may place greater value on visual impact, weather protection and a refined guest experience.

Establish the expected usage profile, target player segment, available footprint, operating hours and intended revenue model. This gives the project team a basis for deciding court quantity, circulation space, booking capacity, lighting requirements and whether a canopy should be included from day one.

Court choice should follow that brief.
